Here it’s an excerpt from the Exclusive Interview …

  1. Omara, how did your childhood love for science and tech influence your writing in “The Space Traveller’s Lover”?

I read many scientific books from an early age to satisfy my infinite curiosity and zest for knowledge, so I gathered a wealth of information over the years. In addition, I have visited unique places on this beautiful planet while on my astronomy projects. Eventually, I was able to seamlessly merge all these experiences into the beautiful story of “The Space Traveller’s Lover”.

  1. How did everyday inspirations, like cloud shapes and constellations, find their way into your storytelling?

I can make up any shapes I wish from the cloudy and the starry sky. I enjoy working on my imagination in such a manner. Every time I look up at the sky, daytime or nighttime, I wonder about the mysteries of our times. Then, I try to answer them, creating and writing stories along the way.

  1. How did you go from writing occasionally to setting goals and taking your writing seriously?

I think it was a question of finding the time, the confidence, and the self-belief. While I was busy studying, working, and building a family, becoming an author was at the bottom of my priority list. First, I worked on lifting my confidence and self-belief, and then finding the time was easy. I made sure to make a writing schedule and stick to it.

  1. Your background in Nuclear Engineering and IT is unique. How do these fields seep into your sci-fi writing?

My Nuclear Engineering and Software Engineering background is deeply embedded in the concepts presented in “The Space Traveller’s Lover”. I used my physics, chemistry and computer knowledge to build the fascinating alien world and the drama that unfolded. Ultimately, I created an imaginary world full of outrageous otherworldly landscapes, but with the real possibility that it could all be true.

  1. Investigating ancient alien theories and watching the night sky, how do they influence your book themes?

I am very interested in astrobiology, particularly in the question: “Are we alone in the Universe?” There are so many theories and conjectures about this mystery. That is why I have read so many books about it and visited mysterious ancient ruins. This question has been in the human mind since early humans looked at the heavens thousands of years ago. Still, the question remains as intriguing as it ever was. That is why I used this very question as one of the central themes when I decided to write my science-fiction book.

  1. “The Space Traveller’s Lover” is set in a future Earth facing ecological collapse. What inspired this backdrop?

Our planet’s climate is changing; there is no doubt about that. It has also changed in the past, but the difference now is that the human population is nearing eight billion. We should not underestimate our impact on the planet or the planet’s impact on us.

How will this climate change ultimately affect our environment and civilisation? I cover a possible scenario in my book “The Space Traveller’s Lover” to make us consider the potential consequences. My goal is to make the readers think about our place, duty, and responsibilities on our beautiful planet.

  1. Can you introduce us to the Rom-Ghenshar aliens and what drives them in your story?

The Rom-Ghenshars belong to what we classify as Type III civilisation. Their advanced technology is beyond our current scientific understanding. The aliens’ unlimited control of energy sources and mastery of the space-time fabric drive them to conquer the Universe as we know it. When the Rom-Ghenshars arrive at our planet, on the brink of collapse due to disruptive climate change, their takeover should be effortless. To Rothwen, the powerful alien soldier who shows no mercy, it is a matter of adding yet another victory to his accolades. But when he meets Erin, a bright and enigmatic human, he puts all his plans on hold. What he does next, and at every step of his planetary conquest, shapes the storyline in “The Space Traveller’s Lover”.
