Here is a review and thoughts from one of my readers:
Synopsis: The Space Traveller’s Lover is a ground-breaking work of science fiction. The story opens with the Earth on the brink of collapse. In the not-so-distant future, the world’s resources are running thin, and the planet is becoming uninhabitable. To make matters worse, the Rom Ghenshar, a vengeful alien race has returned to Earth to deplete the remainder of humanity’s resources and replace human beings with more advanced replicas. Rothwen, a headstrong and ruthless alien soldier, develops an intense obsession with Erin, a bright young human student with a mysterious past. He decides to bring her into his world, changing all the invasion plans to be with her, just for his pleasure. However, once Erin is with the aliens, she discovers their immense destructive powers.
Erin is the only one who can stop them, but how?? Read the book to discover the mystery and dramatic revelations that lie ahead.
My Thoughts: Omara Williams’ debut novel “The Space Traveller’s Lover” successfully merges the typically disparate genres of romance and science fiction. While science fiction is known for its grand ideas, Williams tackles timely themes such as climate change while also exploring the timeless questions of the value of love, the essence of humanity, and the ethics of a superior force dominating the less powerful. The novel’s intensity is derived from the emotional complexity and quandaries faced by the couple Erin and Rothwen, set against the backdrop of an Earth invasion story.
What sets this novel apart is that the battle between Erin and Rothwen is not a simple one, but rather a nuanced exploration of the possibility of their future together and whether it necessitates the destruction of humanity’s future. The novel questions whether humans are even worth saving, given their lack of stewardship of their own planet.
The novel is set in a futuristic world, and the author has done an excellent job of creating a world that is both imaginative and believable. The characters are well-developed, and their emotions and motivations are explored in-depth, which makes them relatable to the readers.
As a skilled and imaginative storyteller, Williams incorporates innovative world-building techniques and thought-provoking concepts into her work.
